New York Criminal Records Free Database Available Online

NY Criminal records are considered as public document but it doesn't necessarily mean that it is easy to obtain. The document has been made open to the public when the Freedom of Information Act was in place. This law only allows the resident of a given state to get a copy of their personal files only. With that being said, those who wish to access the files other individual needs to have a special request to be granted access to the files of other people.

An arrest file of New York is only one of the many types of criminal records that can be requested in the state. These arrest records are issued to individuals who have violated the laws of the nation and the state. Every time an individual has been reported for violating the laws by different enforcing agencies of the state, a new arrest report is generated by each agency. This means that one person can have several arrest records issued by different bodies of the government. Such document can then be obtained at the office that generated the report.

Details of the arrest are the highlights of the said document. It contains information such as the complete name of the individual, case number, crimes committed by the person and where and when the arrest took place. One can also find some of the personal details of the arrested individual such as the date and place of birth, residence address and other important things that should be known by the public. All of the charges and the sentence that was given to the individual are also indicated on the file. One would only see this document once the case has been closed or resolved.

The New York State Office of Court Administration is where all the criminal records of New York are kept including arrest records. There is no such thing as nationwide criminal check only a state record search. This means that one cannot search for the arrest records of the same person in another state while they are in New York.

Retrieval of a criminal and arrest record would mean knowing the basic information of the record being obtained. One has to fill out the search form provided by the state office with the information about the arrest to get a certified copy of the document. A $65 processing fee has to be paid in order to proceed with the retrieval process. Requests can be done personally at the state office or by sending a mail request. However, the results of a mail request will be sent only after a few days.

The Internet allows the retrieval of an arrest record faster since it can be done even without leaving home. One can even search for arrest records for free. There are several websites out there that lets its users have a trial period of at least 7 days. This gives the users enough time to explore the system and then decide if they wish to continue using the service by paying or not.
