The rate of divorce cases in California is increasing yearly. The residents of California can request for a copy of CA divorce records anytime they need it. With this, it has become a document that is regularly being requested by the residents.

Divorce records are regularly requested by the residents of California for a number of reasons. The document is used when the divorced couple would need to update their property declaration as well as their beneficiary list. It serves as proof of one's status especially when dealing with transactions that involves the couple such as insurance and the like. Aside from government transactions, divorce records are also used as reference when conducting genealogy research. It is not as important as other public documents when it comes to genealogy but it may still cause confusions for the future generation. Although, the divorce certificate is a public document, access to it is limited only to the divorcees and their direct family. A court order has to be presented when one needs to access the divorce files of other individuals. One should know the basic details of the record being requested. The requesting individual is required to indicate their contact details on the request form. By doing all of these, the search can be made easier.

Unlike other states where the divorce records can be obtained from the office of the Vital Statistics, California divorce certificates is not available at the said office. One can only request for the certificate at the county where the separation was made legal. Charges may not be the same for all counties. If one does not know where the divorce was registered, one can seek help from the Vital Statistics office and they can give you information as to where to go to get the needed document. It only cost $13 to search for information about the county and this is only possible for records from 1962-1984. Mail requests can also be sent to the county office but all of the requirements and information as well as the payment should be included in the mail. It usually takes a maximum of 14 business days before the results of the mail request can be sent to the requesting individual.

The Internet has now allowed the retrieval of a divorce certificate electronically. There are several websites now that offer to get copies of the public documents. One can even do a free divorce records search if you know where to look. Most websites offer their service for a reasonable fee which many prefer because of accuracy and completeness.
